Geometric Tiles

For a while now we’ve been in love with gorgeous brick-shaped metro tiles. White ones, bright ones, bevelled ones and glossy ones. Bringing to mind fabulous turn-of-the 20th Century and pre-war style, they’ve been gracing kitchen walls for quite some time. Just recently though, they’ve started having to compete for space with their more deco-inspired geometric cousins.

The 'Shoreditch' by The Baked Tile Company and Ted Baker's 'Geometric' style

Fabulous and inventive products from companies such as Bert & May, Fired Earth, The Baked Tile Company and even floor specialist Amtico and Harvey Maria are all over on-trend Instagram feeds with their designs. So, if you’re in the market for a change then now’s definitely time to think about something bolder for your walls, and if it comes to that, your floors, too. After all, whether your kitchen is big or small a little bit of pattern never goes amiss. Opt for a real statement with a splashback or go one step further and create a stunning feature floor using bold geo tiles.

Not feeling too brave? Start with elegant grey, black and white shades using simpler decorative forms – look for concentric circles or patterns using triangles and diamonds in complementary tones. Fashion designer Ted Baker has been designing homewares for a while now and his Grey Geometric tile (British Ceramic Tile 50599) is a Moroccan-feel matt grey design, suitable for both walls and floors, that has both a subtle pattern and texture.

Original Style Odyssey Grande Saltram Black & Summer Yellow On Chalk and Geomento Topps Tiles

Inspired by 1930’s Art Deco designs, the Geomento from Topps Tiles downplays harsh architectural angles, using blurred pastels with five pattern variations to create softer shapes. Fancy something with a dash of colour? The Original Style Odyssey Grande Saltram is a combination of black, grey and chalk triangles and diamonds with splashes of summery yellow.

If you’re feeling a little more playful and love the North African vibe – a big trend in many of the recent Autumn/Winter 2018 shows – then opt for random geometrics using earthy terracottas, soft blues and rich oranges. The Shoreditch from The Baked Tile Company is a bold patchwork of vibrant tiles that is as much a statement as it is a feature so you can mix and match to your heart’s content.
