While it might not have felt like it for those who live in parts of the country where the Beast from the East bit hardest, the vernal equinox on 21st March heralded the official end of winter, quickly followed last weekend by the clocks going forward.
Buoyed by the promise of longer days and plant life blossoming and blooming in the garden, many of us are looking to spring as a time for renewing and recharging after a winter’s hibernation.
Luckily, we don’t have to leave it to the outside to provide us with a touch of greenery, as last year’s trend for indoor plants and faux foliage has grown into a full-blown riot of botanical textures, prints and all-around floral inspiration. And it’s everywhere – from incorporating real plants into your scheme to adding decorative touches with soft furnishing blooming with flora and fauna. Don’t despair, though, if you haven’t got green fingers the latest faux florals and greenery from Oka, Abigail Ahern, Wayfair and Trouva are fabulously realistic and much easier to care for than the real thing.
You can add a touch of the outdoors almost anywhere, from a bright floral glass splashback, to blinds with a delicate wildflower print or a feature wall with a striking palm tree motif. A number of trends within a trend mean that there really is something for everyone. If you prefer a classic look, to match our traditional Original furniture – something that’s a more restrained English Country garden style – there are plenty of pretty meadow flower and delicate fern patterns and motifs that will allow you to subtly welcome in the spring and summer. While mixing floral designs can work well, toning all elements will help to prevent it feeling overly fussy.
If you prefer something bolder and with a totally tropical taste, then palm prints, cheese plants and cacti are all big features on the high street for this summer. Playful rainforest patterns and motifs in emerald greens and deep sea blues partnered with joyous pinks and oranges are sure to add a sense of fun to any kitchen diner. Just remember, if you’re going bold then less is more. A few key pieces of this look will go a long way.
