We were delighted to design a kitchen for this outstanding Grade II listed home in the South Cotswolds. Our clients desired a spacious, traditional country kitchen in keeping with the original features while renovating their entire property, with future plans to turn it into a charming B&B. A home like this isn’t something we encounter every day, with remarkable architectural details providing the perfect foundation for a truly bespoke kitchen design.
The design centres around the unique heritage of both the home and its owners. The result is a space that feels curated, personal and entirely authentic to its countryside setting.
At the heart of this project is our Original Cabinetry Collection – an ornate and traditional style perfectly suited to classic homes of this calibre. The cabinetry has been painted in Harvey Jones Caramelised, a beautifully understated, nature-inspired neutral. This warm-toned shade brings a fresh yet relaxed quality to the open-plan space, enhancing the sense of calm synonymous with a countryside kitchen.
To complement the cabinetry, oak block worktops match the drawer and cabinetry internals. This thoughtful detail reinforces the connection to natural materials, tying the entire bespoke kitchen together with a cohesive, organic feel.
The cabinetry is finished with Armac Martin Cotswold Cup and Knob handles in Burnished Brass. They add a subtle layer of refinement and warmth – perfectly aligned with the overall luxury kitchen design.
The crowning glory of this luxury kitchen is the 70-year-old AGA, elegantly framed by an original stone mantel. Acting as a natural focal point, it draws the eye to the centre of the room and anchors the entire design.
The AGA, finished in classic white, is complemented by a traditional brass utensil rail, where hanging copper pans and utensils introduce a lived-in, personal touch. These details not only enhance functionality but also celebrate the heritage and character of the home. At Harvey Jones, we love leaning into these traditional country kitchen designs that celebrate heritage.
The layout has been carefully considered to balance beauty with practicality. A traditional kitchen island sits at the heart of the space, featuring:
This zoning creates a natural flow between cooking and entertaining, ideal for both everyday living and hosting guests in a future B&B setting.
Opposite the island, the Denby vintage Belfast sink is paired with a matching brass tap. It’s positioned perfectly to maintain an efficient work triangle between preparation, cooking and serving areas.
A key feature of this bespoke kitchen design is the careful balance between open and closed cabinetry. Glass-fronted cabinets, traditional plate racks and solid doors work together to create visual interest while maintaining functionality.
This approach works beautifully in the space, allowing for:
Every element of this cottage kitchen is designed to reflect its countryside surroundings. Classic sash windows flood the space with natural light, offering uninterrupted views of the landscape beyond.
Underfoot, a neutral format tiled floor reinforces the country kitchen aesthetic – durable, timeless, and perfectly suited to rural living.
The combination of natural wood, warm neutrals and heritage features creates a space that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to its environment.
The kitchen flows effortlessly into a dining area, where a traditional farmhouse table and chairs enhance the rustic charm. The island acts as a gentle divider between zones, maintaining openness while clearly defining each space.
This luxury kitchen layout is ideal for social living – whether hosting guests, enjoying family meals, or creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Beyond the main kitchen, we designed a beautifully functional luxury utility room and bespoke boot room. It’s an essential addition for a home rooted in family countryside living (the perfect place to hide muddy wellies and contain mess!)
This zoned space continues the same design style as the kitchen, with:
The space is carefully planned to maximise functionality, featuring:
A matching Belfast sink and brass tap echo the luxury kitchen design. Cottage-style windows once again frame views of the surrounding countryside.
This small utility boot room provides a practical solution for keeping clutter out of the main kitchen – particularly important in a busy Cotswolds home and future B&B setting.
Our clients were so pleased with their bespoke kitchen that they returned to us to create this additional utility and storage space, ensuring every part of their home works beautifully together.
This project is a true reflection of how thoughtful luxury kitchen design can honour the past while supporting modern living. The result is a space that feels timeless, practical and deeply personal.
And of course, this beautiful space would be complete without Cleo, a gorgeous Spaniel, who kindly modelled for the shoot – rewarding herself with one of the team’s sandwiches for her efforts!
