It goes without saying that a kitchen extension will transform a space and add value to your property. From sliding doors and sensational sky lights through to side returns, the opportunities are endless.

This can seem like a long and disruptive process, however, with the right guidance and planning, a kitchen extension could be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. We’ve enlisted the help of our Head of Design, Melissa Klink, to share her advice on how to manage a project like this.

It’ll come as no surprise to learn that proper planning is the secret to success. Here are some pointers to start you off on the right footing:

  • Communication is key. Make sure your scheme of work and schedules are clear and understood by everyone involved in the project.
  • Clarity of roles helps avoid confusion. Ensure each party understands their role in the project and the time frame that their work is expected to be carried out in.
  • Be realistic. Always allow extra time, that way you should hopefully not be disappointed if any unforeseen issues arise.
  • Know when to ask for help. Consider appointing a project manager, who can offer experience, attention to detail and most importantly time. They will lead the project for you and keep track of deadlines – it’s a full-time job managing kitchen design plans, installation, architect drawings and building work.
