A Day with Our Kitchen Designers

20th January 2026
Kitchen designers discussing kitchen trends and bespoke kitchen design

What does a day in the life of a luxury kitchen designer really look like?

Most days are spent sketching layouts, meeting clients and refining the smallest of details. But every so often, our designers step away from individual projects to come together as a team. To share ideas, spark inspiration and celebrate the creativity behind bespoke kitchen design.

Recently, we welcomed a group of our talented kitchen designers to our Harrogate kitchen showroom for a dedicated Designer Day. The focus was simple: to collaborate, exchange expertise and showcase the passion that goes into every Harvey Jones kitchen

From hands-on moodboarding to insightful Q&A discussions, the day offered a genuine glimpse into how our designers think, work and bring dream kitchens to life.

Why We Brought Our Kitchen Designers Together

The purpose of the day wasn’t about presentations or polished messaging. It was about connection, creativity and inspiration.

We wanted to create an environment where our designers could:

  • Share their individual experiences and design approaches
  • Inspire one another with fresh ideas and perspectives
  • Showcase the people and personalities behind Harvey Jones
  • Help clients better understand the bespoke kitchen design process

At Harvey Jones, every kitchen is designed around the client, and this day was all about celebrating the experts who make that happen.

“Days like this remind us why we love what we do. It’s about sharing ideas, learning from each other and bringing that energy back to our clients.” – Charlotte, Brighton & Hove Kitchen Showroom

Creativity in Action: Kitchen Moodboarding Session

The day began with a burst of creativity.

Before any structured conversations took place, our designers gathered around the kitchen island for a hands-on luxury kitchen moodboard session. Paint swatches, material samples and fabric textures quickly filled the space as ideas began to flow.

Moodboarding is a fundamental part of the bespoke kitchen design process. It helps transform abstract thoughts into something visual and tangible, allowing colours, textures and finishes to be explored freely.

Rather than rushing into decisions, this stage encourages experimentation and collaboration, helping each designer shape a clear creative direction.

“A moodboard is where a kitchen design really begins. It allows you to play with ideas, test combinations and discover what feels right for the client before anything is finalised.” – Rachel, Islington Kitchen Showroom

Watching different designers approach the same task in unique ways offered fascinating insight into their individual styles. Some gravitated towards bold colour palettes, others focused on natural textures or subtle, timeless tones.

The session perfectly highlighted the collaborative spirit at Harvey Jones. With all our bespoke kitchen designers swapping ideas, comparing materials and inspiring one another throughout the process.

Sharing Expertise: Kitchen Designer Q&A Sessions

With creativity sparked, the day moved into relaxed and open Q&A discussions.

These conversations were an opportunity for each kitchen designer to share their personal approach, practical knowledge and passion for creating beautiful, functional spaces.

Topics included:

  • What is the first question you ask a client?
  • What makes a kitchen feel truly timeless?
  • Which details make the biggest difference to a kitchen?
  • What should clients bring to a kitchen design appointment?

“The first question I ask a client is how they want their kitchen to feel. Are they looking for something homely and inviting, or sleek and contemporary? Those key words give me a real steer and help spark the inspiration for the whole design.” – Claire, Harrogate Kitchen Showroom

“I always want to know what works, and what doesn’t,  in their current kitchen. From that, I can start to understand layout, flow and how we can create a new design that truly meets their needs.” – Charlotte, Brighton & Hove Kitchen Showroom

These honest, thoughtful discussions reflect the heart of Harvey Jones. Bespoke kitchen design is a process built on listening, understanding and tailoring every detail to the client.

What Makes a Great Kitchen Designer?

Spending a day together reinforced something we already know: no two kitchen designers work in exactly the same way.

Some are inspired by architecture, others by colour, texture or the way a family uses their home. But they all share the same goal, to create kitchens that are as practical as they are beautiful.

As one designer described:

“Great kitchen design isn’t about following trends. It’s about understanding people and designing a space that works perfectly for their everyday life.” – Rachel, Islington Kitchen Showroom

That blend of creativity, technical expertise and genuine care is what defines a Harvey Jones kitchen designer

Designing a bespoke kitchen is about far more than cabinetry and appliances. It’s about understanding how a space needs to function, how it should feel and how it fits into the rhythm of everyday life.

Bringing our designers together to share ideas and experiences ultimately benefits every client who walks through our showroom doors.

“One of the best things about being a kitchen designer is that no day, and no client, is ever the same. That’s what keeps it exciting and inspiring.” – Lewis, Chester Kitchen Showroom
