While we’ve not completely fallen out of love with stainless steel, the current interiors trend for brass, copper and gold metallic touches is now reaching into the kitchen. While most of us won’t be rushing to add lots of bling, there are tasteful copper and rose gold pieces that can be added to help the trend move from the bedroom, bathroom and living room to firmly secure a place in the heart of the home.

While most appliances are still rocking stainless steel and aluminium as their main colourway, don’t be afraid of mixing metallics. As long as you stick to one tone and keep the finish the same overall then you can happily combine both steel and gold or copper elements in one space.

WALLS
Walls and cabinets painted in a complimentary colour such as Farrow & Ball’s ‘Setting Plaster’ or Fired Earth’s ‘Manna Ash’ will provide a warming background to metallic elements and give an elegant base on which to build your kitchen design.

LIGHTS
Lighting is a great way to start, particularly if you’re planning pendants to sit above an island or dining table. While there has been plenty of copper for some time, it’s worth looking at softer options such as this elegant design from Kasper, £33.99, which, with its simple wire-work frame provides two new trends in one.

SEATS
Inspired by vintage factory seating, the contemporary Gaillard stool in cast aluminium with a rose gold finish from MY Furniture, £99.99, is height-adjustable – ensuring it will be suitable for all the family.

TAPS
While gold taps might seem a thing of the 1970s and possibly a step too far, there are some very subtle, beautiful options now available that could change your mind. The Blanco Envoy single lever monobloc tap, £219.99 is a sleek design that’s perfect for an elegant, modern kitchen. If you prefer a hot-water tap, then the Abode Pronteau Prostream 3in1 monobloc in Urban Copper, £849, has an elegant brushed finish and really shines out against faux-marble composite worktops and splashbacks. Quooker also offer alternative finishes on their hot water taps, adding a little elegance and luxury into your kitchen design.

STORAGE
Combining another new material trend – concrete – with restrained copper elements, storage canisters from Cult Furniture are £28 for a set of four, will keep everything beautifully neat and tidy.
