Leading interiors brand, Lee Longlands has just launched its new Interior Design Studio, complete with stunning dark-on-dark Harvey Jones kitchen. The fourth generation family business is a treasure trove of unique quality home furnishings and accessories from around the world and their in-house designs are second-to-none.
We are delighted to be part of the project and caught up with Destiny Smith to hear more about how she designed the space
- How would you describe the overall look and feel of the kitchen?
The whole space has real New York loft vibes so we wanted the kitchen to feel simple and modern but still impactful. I chose a black monochromatic scheme for our Arbor cabinetry, blending classic design with a contemporary palette. It was something new for me, but really shows how our styles can be used in any setting.
- Can you talk us through the design process?
Understanding the brief for the entire space was imperative when designing the kitchen. It’s an open-plan space so the kitchen needed to work harmoniously with the other elements. I worked closely with Lee Longlands’ design expert Stephanie, who created design boards that made it easy for me to zone in on the kitchen design so that everything worked together seamlessly.
- Are there any details you just love?!
I love the entire design! But my two standouts are the breakfast dresser which we’ve turned into a trendy home bar, and the seating area. I’ve chosen a River Washed wooden worktop which has created a central focal point and brought some welcome texture to the space.
- What’s your one nugget of advice for anyone starting their own kitchen project?
Take time to define and understand your brief – how are you really going to use the space, what feeling do you want to achieve? And be brave and stand by your choices. The most important thing with any design is to love what you create and choosing what you love is the best way to do it.
