Storage Ideas

With the demand for intelligent storage increasing, rooms like the kitchen and dining room must employ multifunctional design and innovative ideas to utilise every square footage. Whether you have a large open-plan space, a formal entertaining area or a small family dining room, it’s important to find the right storage solution for your needs.

When thinking about your home, the goal is to keep to your dining room table clear, except for decorative pieces. First, find homes for important and much used objects so they don’t end up back on your dining room table. Secondly, get rid of chipped, broken, stained pieces you no longer like or have a need for. With the pieces that are remaining, you can now consider what type of storage solution would work.

We will be looking at different storage solutions, firstly, here are some initial pointers to consider:

  1. Size of space: start by measuring your dining room space, as this can be the biggest restriction. If it’s a small dining room, a creative way to add storage is to use the walls and add built-in shelves. A large or open-plan space gives you the luxury to add a statement piece. Also, consider the space and how much is required for people to fit comfortably around the dining room table, without the feeling of being cramped.
  2. Type of material: Wood is relatively easy to care for and there is a wide choice of finishes and styles, ranging from dark to handpainted, so it’s simple to co-ordinate your storage choices with other furniture. Glass and mirrored storage furniture is still on-trend and can be combined with contrasting materials to make more of a statement.

THE SIDEBOARD

The sideboard used to be where mum kept her “best” crockery; now more than ever homeowners are incorporating sideboards to offer a stylish focal point, as well as much needed storage.

One of our favourite sideboard pieces can be found at Dwell. This retro-inspired design provides a contemporary twist. Made from Walnut veneer, it will fit into any dining scheme. It also provides ample storage with two cupboards and three drawers, making it the ideal answer for all the odd bits you want to hide away. Our bespoke designs allow us to build furniture for this particular storage function. Freestanding storage offers heaps of variety and choice when it comes to keeping an open-plan living space flexible. Top with your favourite accessories, including vases and candle holders.

This Original kitchen features a set of clever storage cupboards to store away fine glasses and crockery and serves as the perfect drinks station.

THE LARDER AND DRESSER

If you have space, consider incorporating a larder-style cupboard into your dining room scheme. Storage on this mighty scale means there shouldn’t be anything left cluttering up your dining room. It offers a complete kitchen and dining storage solution.

For those seeking a more traditional look, the breakfast dresser is a practical as is it is timeless. With a recessed top section featuring concertina doors allowing for easy access to all your cooking tools, this statement piece is the perfect space for preparing your breakfast in the morning to showcasing your cocktails for an evening of entertaining guests. Offering fantastic flexibility, the bottom section can also be customised however you choose.

Our famous Pantry Larder sits perfectly in this Shaker design.

THE DISPLAY CABINET

Add a touch of feminine softness to a scheme with a glass display cabinet or decorative armoire. Opt for a glass-fronted display unit, this will show off tableware and glassware rather than keeping it hidden from view. The curvaceous lines and ornate features of this type of cabinetry bring an on-trend, luxurious feel to any dining room layout.

This display cabinet in our new Arbor range is the perfect space to show off your fine china and glassware.
