Design News Ideal Home Show At Christmas

15th December 2017

If you’re looking for Christmas inspiration, the ‘Ideal Home Show at Christmas’ is a proverbial smorgasbord of festive interiors. Returning for the seventh year, the show descended on London Olympia, offering a plethora of helpful tips from turkey trimmings and hand-crafted gifts, to furniture and New Year home improvements.

Every year the show includes a busy line-up of celebrity ambassadors and this year welcomed GBBO winner Candice Brown and Gino D’Acampo headlining the Eat & Drink festival with recipes and demonstrations. ‘Glambassador’ Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen was showcasing new colours to make the home sparkle and decorative tips to get us in the holiday mood. Finally, Greg Wallace and Olly Smith helped with all culinary hauls and hacks.

The Christmas theatre saw experts from all areas come together to offer advice on ways to achieve the perfect holiday season celebration. Offerings included: Olly Smith with recommendations on the best festive tipples, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen presenting the must-haves for Christmas and the editor of Good Homes magazine Karen Walker unveiling the latest seasonal interior trends.

For visitors looking for interior inspiration, the Christmas roomsets embraced everything that is magical about Christmas. Sponsored by Good Homes, style editor Jess Taverner provided different room sets, each with an on-trend look that follows the theme of ‘Christmas Gems’. The three themes were: Ski Lodge, Precious Jewels and Folklore. Below we examine each look, so you can identify your style and recreate elements of each at home.

Ski Lodge

A modern take on a rustic ski lodge, the bedroom set showcases accents of silver against soft, subtle pinks. Faux-fur and velvet throws finish the look, creating a cosy, wintery setting.

Pink is an extremely versatile colour and more people are using this colour in a contemporary way. Pairing pinks with grey is a complementary combination that works well, as the colours balance each one another. Consider combining pale pinks with charcoal greys, or a stronger tone of pink with a paler grey.

A neutral flooring will anchor the scheme and allow the other tones to shine through, seen here with the BoCoCa wood caramel varnish chevron tiles from Walls and Floor. Consider neutral accessories for a clean, sophisticated scheme.

Precious Jewels

Providing a touch of glamour this Christmas, this dining room set combines sapphire blue with amethyst decorations and show-stopping brass and gold accessories. Adding glamour through mid-century style furniture, statement lighting and marble floor tiles, this scheme evokes complete elegance and is perfect for welcoming guests.

‘Tis the season to entertain family and friends and drinks trolleys are making a comeback, with many styles now available. Whether it’s for storing all your party essentials or mixing your favourite tipple, they are a stylish addition to any dining room.

The vibrant folklore living room is inspired by handmade embroidered cushions and eucalyptus greens. Centred around a modern wood burner, the set combines berry reds and holly greens to provide comfort and warmth.

Wood burning stoves are a great addition to any home, particularly at Christmas. Contemporary stoves complement open-plan, minimalistic spaces, whereas more traditional models suit cosier, country style homes. As seen below, the stove is styled with bourbon brown tiles (Walls and Floors) and industrial style shelf unit and coffee table (Swoon Editions and Maisons du Monde).
