The Ideal Home Show at Christmas returned to Olympia London for its eighth edition, declaring the festive season officially open. Featuring guest appearances on the Christmas theatre, music performances on the bandstand, an exciting mix of exhibitors for some early gift shopping and experts on hand offering festive tips. This winter’s Ideal Home Show was a Christmas lover’s dream.

Of course, it was the home section that immediately caught our attention. Featuring the ever-popular roomsets styled by Good Homes Magazine in partnership with Owl Design, it provided plenty of inspiration to get the home ready for guests and festivities.

The six roomsets were inspired by Christmas entertaining and included dining rooms and living rooms in a variety of styles, showcasing festive ideas to suit every taste.

Classic Elegance: Christmas Day Dining Room

The warmest and most traditional room set of all, Classic Elegance felt like stepping into a family home just in time for Christmas dinner. Featuring an oversized wreath to add interest to the room and natural foliage for a fresh, seasonal scent, the dining room was made even cosier by a DIY advent calendar – a simple, craft project for more character. The timeless floor pattern fit perfectly within the classic style of the room, while the walls were given a modern twist with herringbone tiles.

Winter Chic: Christmas Day Living Room

Everybody is dreaming of a white Christmas but if the weather does not allow it, this scheme is great for creating one indoors. Featuring two trees for double the impact and an abundance of lights and flickering candles to create atmosphere, this living room looked like a snowy fairy tale. The glass tiles used in place of a mirror gave interest to the room and bounced the light around, adding warmth and glitz.

Texture played a big part in this scheme: gorgeous faux-sheepskin throws, glossy surfaces, metallic accents and paper decorations (great for a quick, budget-friendly makeover) turned it into the perfect snug haven.

Family Flair: Boxing Day Living Room

Boxing Day is the time to relax, curl up indoors and spend time with your loved ones. Classic Christmas films and board games are the perfect entertainment for a cosy day in with the family.
This living room was transformed into a home theatre with vintage movie posters, a popcorn station and a statement sofa, great for family viewing.

Five-Star Glamour: Boxing Day Dining Room

Nothing screams decadent glamour like this dining room. With a colour palette of midnight blue, emerald green, dusky pink, brass and lots of gold, it felt equally cosy and nostalgic.
Key areas such as the mantelpiece and alcoves were maximised with wreaths, a clever log display and opulent decorations. The festive banqueting feel was achieved with oxidised-effect floor tiles, a maximalist wallpaper and velvets – a mix of rich materials that reflected the abundance of the buffet perfectly. Finally, the traditional holly and ivy were replaced with small succulents, providing a fresher, more contemporary touch.

Colourful Carnival: New Year’s Eve Living Room

Ideal for retro lovers or for those planning an 80s-themed New Year’s Eve party, the colourful carnival living room provided the perfect example of how easy it is to transform a simple room with a few fun finishing touches. The colourful baubles arranged to mirror an ombre effect resulted in a statement rainbow tree, while the wall of clocks added a quirky, yet easily achievable look to the room. The playful style of the space was also reflected in the choice of flooring, with multicoloured tiles laid at angles. Finally, the neon wall art added plenty of atmosphere – perfect for a memorable New Year’s Eve party!

Disco Fever: New Year’s Eve Dining Room

Think glamorous and opulent with a fun twist – this room was designed to ring in the New Year in style. Shades of almost-black and inky blue, lots of balloons and twinkly lights mixed with dashes of gold and silver gave this scheme a real party vibe. And what is a party without a dancefloor? The disco-inspired chequered black and white floor was the real star of the show, complemented by shiny surfaces and house plants decorated with fairy lights (just in case your Christmas tree does not last throughout the festivities) for extra sparkle.

As always, the Ideal Home Show at Christmas was packed with on-trend ideas, clever decorating tips, stylish colour schemes and must-have products to add wow factor to the home during this time of year. We left feeling inspired and prepared – let the festive season begin!
